The Lake Cinch/Cenex mine is located approximately 2.5 kilometres southwest of Uranium City, on the south side of the Crackingstone River.
General description
The mine site covers an area of approximately 1.5 hectares. The deposit was operated sporadically from 1955 to 1979. During production, the Lake Cinch/Cenex mine produced in excess of 675,000 kilograms of U3O8.
When in operation, access to the mine was gained through one of four openings: an adit and three vertical shafts. The adit was sealed with waste rock when the mine closed and the three shafts were capped with stainless steel covers in 2005 (due to failure of the original shaft covers). Recent site inspections have revealed four additional smaller openings to the underground mine which will require closure (raises 1, 2, 3, and 4).
There are several concrete foundations located on the mine site where buildings and structures were located and a large steel water tank. The site contains significant areas of waste rock.
