Baska Dot Claim Mine Site

Location

The Baska Dot Claim mine site is 13 kilometres northeast of Uranium City along Virgin Lake’s north shore.

General Description

Baska Uranium Mines Limited began prospecting the site in 1951 using geological mapping, radiological mapping, trenching, sampling and diamond drilling.

After discovering radioactive readings, the company began underground exploration. Insufficient ore reserves were discovered and work ceased in 1956.

In 1966 the company was renamed Norbaska Mines Limited and began surveying and diamond drilling the following year with limited results.

The original access trail is completely overgrown with vegetation, making the site unreachable by road.

Located 30 metres from the lakeshore, the mine’s adit remains open. A raise, ore storage area, several wooden buildings, water tanks, and steel debris can also be found near the lake’s shoreline.

In addition, a significant amount of waste rock is spread about the mine site and in Virgin Lake.
