Rix-Athabasca Mines No. 10 Adit Site
Location:
The No. 10 adit is approximately 1 km north of the Leonard Mine.
General Description:
In 1950, Rix Athabasca Uranium Mines Ltd. found 167 radioactive occurrences on the site during radiometric and geological surveys. Fifty of these showings were considered worthy of further work. Three of these, the Smitty, Leonard, and No. 7sites, were eventually explored underground.
This adit was driven into the hillside in a south easterly direction for some 76 metres to investigate a uranium showing. Results of this exploration were negative and no further development was undertaken at his site. The adit was covered in 1963.
The adit is blocked with waste rock but to ensure that it does not open up in the future it is proposed that the material be excavated and backfilled to permanently block the entrance.
There is very little debris remaining at this site with the exception of a few pieces of steel and some 45 gallon drums strewn about the site.
There are no buildings or foundations and there was no water flowing from any of the mine workings
